Details of the Initiative
A seminar titled “The globalizing world and Africa” was held with Professor Joseph Stiglitz (Nobel laureate) at Meiji University on August 27, 2019. The seminar video is available here.
This seminar was organized as an event related to the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 7). This seminar also aimed to launch the publication of “The Quality of Growth in Africa” (Columbia University Press), edited by Professor Stiglitz. Go Shimada, Associate Professor of the School of Information and Communication, also contributed a chapter to this book.
In the seminar, Associate Professor Shimada moderated a panel discussion. In addition to Professor Stiglitz, the panel was also joined by Mr. Hafez Ghanem, Vice President, the World Bank, and Prof. Akbar Noman, Columbia University.
After the seminar, a session to exchange ideas with undergraduate students from the Shimada seminar was also held.
