Details of the Initiative
Seminars and lectures in the field of public management always address social and environmental issues, not only in the classroom, but also outside, in practical training and training camps, where students have opportunities to see and feel the real issues happening now in society and seek solutions from a perspective of management study.
I teach a wide range of subjects, including public management, public marketing, nonprofit management, social finance, global service learning, and graduate school courses. Looking at the relationship between the themes covered in public marketing and the SDGs, universal design incorporates the SDGs’ philosophy of “leaving no one behind” in product design, and environmental marketing is consistent with the SDGs’ goals for protecting the environment. We place importance on the process of identifying the needs for universal design in our daily lives and considering ways to promote environmentally conscious products through group discussions.
Every year, we invite people who are active on the front line in the field as guests to our seminars and lectures. In 2024, we invited TORII Ippei (Secretary General of the Solidarity Network with Migrants Japan) to talk about human rights issues concerning foreign residents in a nonprofit management class. The topic exactly relates to the goal of equality and fairness set forth in the SDGs.
