Details of the Initiative
As an institution open to society and accessible to all, the University Museum provides learning opportunities to many people. Renovation of the regular exhibition is currently underway and is scheduled to be completed in three years, from academic years 2023 to 2025. The new exhibition will include content that contributes to the achievement of the SDGs in relation to the specialties of each department: “Commodity,” “Archaeology,” and “Criminal Materials”
In March 2024, the renewal of the “Commodity” exhibit was completed. The main purpose of this exhibition is to consider the way commodities should be by displaying traditional crafts as examples, such as ceramics and lacquerware. Especially, items valued for their comfortable to use, beautiful designs, and how the ingenuity and sensitivity of their creators are daily commodities that should be cherished for a long time. These goods are expensive due to high production costs. However, because the speed of manual work limits the use of natural resources, they should be recognized again as consumer goods that balance with nature’s regenerative power and are expected to contribute to raising awareness for how commodities should be developed and how we should choose and use them.
