Details of the Initiative

Today, people in developing countries suffer from hunger and malnutrition, while people in developed countries suffer from obesity and other lifestyle-related diseases. “TABLE FOR TWO” is an initiative aimed at improving food imbalances on a global scale.

This initiative works as follows: Each time a person in a developed country eats one Table For Two healthy meal, 20 yen, which is equivalent to the cost of one school lunch in developing countries, is donated. This will help improve the health of people in both developed and developing countries at the same time.

“Palette,” an official volunteer group of Meiji University, participated in this initiative with the cooperation of the university cafeteria. We devised healthy and delicious meals, served them at the cafeteria, and donated part of the sales to developing countries.

It was difficult to come up with ideas for healthy and delicious meals that students would want to eat. We had discussions over and over again with the group members and cafeteria staff, and promoted our meals using flyers and posters. Thanks to these efforts, our dishes were sold out for some days.

“TABLE FOR TWO” has the great appeal that students who are not interested in donating can easily participate. Based on a review of this activity, we would like to make efforts so that more people can eat our dishes next time.
