Details of the Initiative

Faculty members of the School of Commerce have conducted research on the SDGs, which encompass diverse fields, drawing on their expertise in social sciences, such as management, accounting, and finance, while occasionally incorporating insights from natural sciences. Initiated in 2017, this joint research was recognized as a comprehensive research project by Meiji University Institute of Social Sciences in 2018. Some of the research outcomes were published as Kore ga SDGs (This Is the SDGs) by Dobunkan Publishing in 2021. Using this as a textbook, several faculty members jointly taught Introduction to Studies in Commercial Sciences, focusing on SDG themes, over a three year period starting in fiscal 2022. Faculty members involved in the joint research have incorporated SDG-related themes into the following courses: The SDGs Cooking Science, offered as part of the Special Theme Practicum, has explored alternative meats and proposed specific menu ideas; a course in the Comprehensive Interdisciplinary Seminar has taken part in a community learning initiative in Ogano Town, Saitama Prefecture; a Seminar Group organized SDG-related workshops that included its graduates as part of the Professional Seminar in Commercial Science. In January 2025, their discussion focused on how small and medium-sized enterprises should approach the SDGs.
