Details of the Initiative

The SUENAGA Keiichiro Study Group specializes in development economics, examining and analyzing strategies for economic growth in developing countries. Each Year, my seminar students select a developing country of interest and study its economic challenges.
This year, they have been working on papers aimed at proposing concrete policies, focusing on two themes: “The diffusion of renewable energy in Vietnam and its economic effects” and “The relationship between tariff-induced FDI and technology spillovers to domestic manufacturing industries.” During this summer vacation, my study group visited Vietnam for a survey.
In this fieldwork, we interviewed staff from several companies to learn about their knowledge of the renewable energy sector in Vietnam, how FDI companies transfer their technologies to local firms, and the challenges and requests of local companies businesses. It was a great opportunity to hear valuable insights from people working in Vietnam about the country’s unique challenges.
Building on the interviews, we will continue our research, aiming to develop concrete measures to support sustainable economic growth in Vietnam.
